At UFC 267 in October 2021, Teixeira became the oldest UFC champion at age 42 when he defeated former title holder Jan Blachowicz. UFC 283: Teixeira vs Hill preview

The Teixeira v Hill matchup was hastily put together six weeks in advance after the promotion’s previous plans for the light heavyweight division did not work out as expected. At UFC 282 in December, Magomed Ankalaev and former champion Jan Blachowicz faced off for the interim title and the bout ended in a rare split tie, leaving the title unclaimed.

UFC President Dana White, seemingly unimpressed with either fighter’s performance, announced afterwards that a rematch would not be scheduled, and would instead turn his attention to planning a Teixeira vs. Hill match for the vacant title.

Teixeira looked like an obvious choice for an opportunity because he was ahead on the scorecards against Prochazka (33-8) before losing via submission at the 4:32 mark of the fifth round. His savage back-and-forth affair has earned numerous Fight of the Year honors from the MMA media.

Hill (11-1-1) was seen as a surprise by some MMA observers, but his profile was on the rise as his last four wins all came by stoppage. In his UFC debut last August, he stopped former title challenger Thiago Santos in the fourth round. You can see who Marley is supporting here.

UFC 283 Experts’ Top Picks

Let’s share one of Marley’s selections at UFC 283 here: he’s backing Mounir Lazzez (+155) to beat Gabriel Bonfim (-180) in an explosive welterweight bout on the preliminary card.

Lazzez (11-2) impressed with his pace and versatile skills as he won two of his first three UFC appearances. The 35-year-old Tunisian hasn’t fought since his decision victory over Ange Loosa, in April last year.

Bonfim (13-0) is a well-regarded contender making his UFC debut after a string of dominating performances in various promotions. The 25-year-old Brazilian earned a contract with the promotion following a first-round submission from Trey Waters at “Dana White’s Contender Series” last September.

“Bonfim has ugly finishes, and plays with bad intentions on his feet. But Lazzez must be the more technical striker and could win by stoppage or decision. I prefer to side with the underdog in what he considers to be a close fight,” Marley told SportsLine. See who else to pick here.
