Regal Cinemas prepares to close 39 movie theaters in the US in mid-February, according to a new filing filed in bankruptcy court this week by its British parent company Cineworld.
The filing says rejecting leases beginning Feb. 15, “debtors’ estimate…. [it] will save approximately $22 million per year for their properties.”

movie world, which declared bankruptcy in September, wrote that its “businesses have been heavily affected by the global spread of COVID-19 and its aftermath, including a decline in movie attendance, a disrupted film production and release schedule, and an increase in home entertainment alternatives.”
